KAT Vox TBX Replacement Vents
As many of you are aware, KAT modify Vox AC30 and AC15 amplifiers in the same form that we build Brian May’s units. The one thing that has provided the biggest headache is sourcing replacement TBX vents. They simply just don’t seem to exist on the after-market sales platforms, which is a shame because, whilst they look smart dropped into a nice recess sitting flush with the Tolex, they are just pressed 1mm steel plate, so over the years get rather dented and deformed. In fact, in all the amplifiers we have worked on, I don’t think I have ever come across a perfectly straight one.
Not happy sending out customer amps with dented vents, we decided to have our own built. Obviously, the larger quantities we had made, the lower the buy-price, so we had quite a few cut, drilled and powder coated, which is why we are in a position now to be able to offer them to our customers.
The original units were held in place with dome-topped nails but, we decided to go a little further and fit them using tiny black japanned cross-headed screws. Far neater and less chance of denting the vents with a hammer when installing. You will need a small cross-headed watchmakers screwdriver to fit these and I would strongly suggest you drill a 1mm pilot hole before trying to screw them in, but they will look jolly nice once installed!
